Keep it simple. The purpose of the interview is for you to gain the interest of the potential employer but equally for you to evaluate the suitability of the opportunity. If you don’t give equal consideration to both parts you could;

  • Sell yourself well and gain an offer for an opportunity you don’t know enough about

  • Find out that the role is ideal but didn’t sell yourself enough to gain the interest of the interviewer

Find out about the company's interview processes.

  • How many interviews are there and how long will they, typically, last

  • Who will you have to meet and what are their interview styles like

Preparation is the way to go, approach each interview as though it is the only opportunity you are going for.

The fact that you are going for the interview in the first place should give you plenty to be positive about. If your CV is a balanced and fair reflection of your capabilities and you conduct a positive interview you can do no more.

The most common reasons for being rejected include:

  • Poor attitude / lack of interest
  • Poor appearance
  • Lack of research into the company
  • Lack of questions about the opportunity
  • Inability to relate skills and knowledge to the requirement
  • Lack of career direction
  • Being too modest or arrogant
